Shopping on your doorstep

Shopping on your doorstep

Shopping may not be top of your list of priorities when you’re on the Costa del Sol, but it’s nice to know there are excellent and varied options available.

Fuengirola shopping

The south entrance at Higuerón West leads to the beaches on the eastern side of Fuengirola, and here you’ll find the beginnings of streets and avenues that lead into the heart of town, all of them lined with shops and professional services. The centre of Fuengirola is a nice place to park the car and stroll around from boutique to boutique, spotting also a complete range of other shops and eateries along the way.

Apart from Fuengirola’s very own El Corte Inglés department store, the main shopping mall here is Miramar, which boasts most well-known brand outlets along with a food court and cinemas with movies in the original soundtrack. Right beside it, just on the other side of the riverbed, is another commercial area with a very good Dunnes Stores selling clothing, textiles, British-style snacks and also things for the house. It borders a DFS furniture store, Leroy Merlin DIY outlet and others.

Heading east towards Málaga

Plaza Mayor is the place to head if you want a classic village style shopping mall experience. It’s home to top international shops, including Mediamarkt and a superb McArthurGlen designer outlet where you can find up to date fashion at very attractive prices. Plaza Mayor also offers lots of food options and a multi-cinema complex, and finds itself surrounded by Ikea and other large stores specialising in furniture and home improvements.

Heading west to Marbella

Just for variety, you may want to go shopping at Marbella’s excellent La Cañada, a stylish shopping mall with top brand names, while the El Corte Inglés store in Puerto Banús is one of the best and most comprehensive in all of Spain.

Added to this are traditional shops in streets and town centres across the region, as well as flea and antique markets, the excellent permanent food markets in Fuengirola and Marbella, and weekly farmer’s markets, not to mention stylish shopping at the heart of Málaga’s atmospheric historic centre.
